Difference between Toner Cartridges and Ink Cartridges

A toner cartridge contains a plastic housing containing graphite and plastic ink powder, a metallic fuse roller and synthetic felt wand. While ink cartridge is one that contains ink that is spread on paper during printing and can be replaced. They are also known as inkjet cartridge. They have electronic chips that communicate with the printer.

With each person or business acquiring computers and personal printers, it has become useful for choice of the best gadget to use for your computer and printer. This applies to even the cartridges since this will determine the quality of the printed work. Everyone wants clear and satisfying work for self- use or for the client. The two cartridges are different in several ways such as;

The ink cartridge is like a writing pen that uses pressure to apply the ink on paper. These ink can be oil or water based while toner cartridges are fine dry carbon based powder with polymer applied on paper. The laser burns the powder onto paper and melts forming letters and images on the paper. This happens with the help of static electricity. Inkjets are fairly cost effective. Many documents can be printed before the ink runs out. The quality of the printed work is also good especially the colored. For toner cartridges, the smaller the toner particles, the better the resolution. Particles with same size and shapes give better color on the image. Toner cartridges have quality, long printing, and speed efficiency.

Toner and Ink Cartridges: Does Size Matter?

The ink cartridges are smaller in size and portable while toner cartridges are large and hold more toner and can print at least 5,000 pages. A toner cartridge is more expensive than ink cartridge. Toner cartridges can be used for bulk printing because of its long printing life. The type of printer determines the type of cartridge to be used. An ink jet printer uses ink jet cartridges while laser printers use toner cartridges. The printing speed for toner cartridges is faster than ink cartridges. Pages printed using toner cartridges are slightly expensive than ink jet cartridges. Both cartridges have generic version that can reduce the cost of printing. Ink cartridges spray ink over the paper to create images while toner uses static electricity. Images printed from ink cartridges can easily run out than those of toner cartridges.

The choice of either of the cartridges depends on the use or need of an individual. If it is for small pack printing then ink jet cartridges may be appropriate. For bulk printing, toner cartridges are more reliable because they can print more pages thereby reducing the chances of disappointments while printing.
